Yep, I read Reddit. But not all the time, so when others x-post from Reddit or other popular aggregators, and I have only time to check HN, I'm grateful to see such submissions even if I'm not aware what led to it. And conversely, if I find something really interesting on Reddit, I think that maybe it'll be interesting to HN readers, and people can upvote or ignore as they pleas.e I'm aware that some power users may use third-party clients or have written their own custom feeds that draw from HN and Reddit at the same time, but I'm suspecting that's a minority of users.

I don't think I need to explain that just because information is available means that it is automatically consumed...sometimes things are posted onto HN from years past (I even saw something from 1892 relating to Ada Lovelace on the front page this week) that are new to me.
