This gerrymandering debacle does seem to increase political tensions around and between states, especially if it spreads to multiple states and everyone starts gerrymandering, making all states politically binary in their representation. The sides for a succession / civil war become clear.
Just yesterday federal agents were in California against the will of the California state government, and gathered outside a building where the governor was speaking, so threats of violence / force are on the table already.
It's basically so incredible that I can't believe Russia and or China wasn't behind this, the dismantling of The Union, it's a Soviet wet dream and it could be happening for real.
Gerrymandering is not new, but have states threatened to counter gerrymander each other like this before? Have we seen an escalating tit-for-tat directly between states like this before?
Also, Texas politicians are hiding in other states, and politicians in those other states are acknowledging this and trying to harbor them. This is a situation involving violent force, since Texas and the FBI are trying to arrest the Texas politicians who fled. Just states openly aggravating each other in matters of violence.
President Trump has also done things like threaten to withhold federal funds and aid from states he does not like. There are multiple examples of this. A state could justly feel that they are not getting any benefit from paying federal taxes if that happens.
We're also seeing the US military being deployed on US soil for divisive political reasons, and Trump threatens to do more of this in the future.
Not disagreeing. What Texas is doing and California's response is new, just adding context on what current state of gerrymandering. No idea if it will work, at least some democrat is doing something. But I have a feeling that its a bit late now that they'll have military in the streets of most major democrat cities once they copy what they did in DC. Frankly, anything less than a military coup is unlikely to stop project 2025.
