Moreover, companies can directly monetize proprietary models, providing a clear path to profitability, and they can offer enhanced security and privacy controls crucial for sensitive applications. Thus, both open-source and proprietary LLMs are likely to continue playing vital roles in AI's future landscape.


While I'm sure there are monetary benefits of making your LLM proprietary, I'm not sure there's a benefit to extending someone else's proprietary LLM.
