What was the post about giving malicious users worse UX?

I can't find the post, but I remember it being posted here some time ago (months, maybe a year?).

Somebody found out that it's more effective to give malicious users worse user experience (slow loads, random error messages) instead of banning them completely.

Maybe you can’t find it because HN has given YOU a worse UX??

Kidding of course. I feel like I remember seeing something like that also.

It's effective giving users a worse user experience in general when you're trying to limit some action.

Have you ever tried to unsubscribing from Prime? If you want a crash course in how to stop a user doing something you don't want them to do then I'd start there.

Might be "The Frustration Loop" by Herman, the creator of bearblog? https://herman.bearblog.dev/the-frustration-loop/

Yes, this is it. Thanks a lot!

Sounds like a cousin of shadow banning.
