My in-laws live in Becker and while yes this transition will reduce jobs for the community and surrounding area, Becker being a "rural" community is a bit of a misnomer. It is part of the Twin Cities metro as an ex-burb. The coal plant shutting down won't have the same economic impact as, say, a taconite mine in the Iron Range in northern MN shutting down would. There is just much more potential for workers who live in Becker to find new jobs because of their close proximity to the Twin Cities (like my in-laws).
