Sex workers worry that Threads could kill their business (fastcompany.com)

So then continue to use Twitter? Not every new social media tool needs to be a fit for every industry. Additionally, sex work occupies a grey zone in which it's not always appropriate for the platform to... err, platform sexual content.

If people wish to contact sex workers then they'll use Twitter because it's the place to go for sex workers. Presumably this was already an issue when Instagram (Meta) stopped permitting sexual content. Why would they expect Meta's new app be any different?

Yeah that's the problem. If they only operated on the website where people intentionally went to contact them they'd have to operate like an honest business.

Instead they have to hang around twitter hoping random teenagers with no impulse control will see their non-sequitor replies and get addicted.

The legitimate ones should probably be more mad about FOSTA-SESTA, and the fact that it killed places such as Craigslist.

The ones that spam feeds can go away, as far as I'm concerned. But trust me, it isn't like Instagram isn't filled with thristraps anyway.

I think modern porn (which is very different from traditional) flew under the radar for too long. It’s sort of a recreational drug and should be regulated so users could still use it freely, but it wouldn’t tease them at every corner.

I’m a user myself, but when I see it or its sales on a “generic” platform that’s just annoying and doesn’t belong there. What sex workers seem to want is being presented in-your-face at all crowded places. And when allowed they do it aggressively due to bloody competition and strong personal interest.

> seem to want is being presented in-your-face at all crowded places

You have described every modern marketing and sales organization. Why is this industry any different than alcohol, fashion, vehicles, banking...

If I make my money producing autovivisection content, why can’t I show it to all people at all times? It’s just work, why discriminate? It’s almost as though people have, enforce, and codify mores and taboos.

This kind of pathological individualism inevitably leads to silly conclusions like Rothbard’s assertion that “the purely free society will have a flourishing free market in children.”

Did Fast Company hire the headline writer from Vice?

My immediate thought was that Twitter would be for the right (in almost all manners) and porn/escorts.

Launch a microblogging platform for anything but the worst universal taboos. The end.

Stop with the newspeak.

Less of the slurs, please. I thought this was supposed to be a classy place.

I'll add that your use of "slur" is quite melodramatic in this context as the dictionary defines the word in question as "somewhat old fashioned".

Calling someone a "sex worker" doesn't bring class into the discussion. It's just sugar coating the situation, which is my point, as uncomfortable as that may be for some.

Ah, so you're just trolling. I thought we weren't supposed to do that here either?

Can you repeat your initial message? I am an adult and can decide whether it offends me without someone flagging it for me.

On HN the zeitgeist decides what we see and don't see

I'm not concerned with whether it offends you.
