Such a cool idea. I've never used it as a daily driver, but I'm glad to see it's still going anyways.


I used qubes for about 9 months or so as a daily driver in a startup CTO role and found it fantastically effective. It's really great for a work situation because you can trivially set up different vms for performing "executive" functions (email, presentations etc) and development, and it's really easy to switch gears and do things like infosec evaluations (open things in RO burner VMs to take a look at them etc).

Edit to add: I stopped using it in the end because having "real" MS Office became essential to certain job functions and I never got the windows vm working satisfactorarily. It worked but it introduced enough additional friction to be a problem for certain things I needed to do (eg client demos etc). This was partly because my laptop wasn't really powerful enough for the task.


You might want to check out Bromium aka HP SureClick. It is also Xen based, but with many millions of VC USDs spent on optimizing scale & performance.
