‘The Rings of Power’ Showrunners Break Silence on Backlash, Sauron and Season 2 (hollywoodreporter.com)

The show runners sound deluded from what I'm reading, or even dishonest. You can't say you love something and then try to change it and adapt it for "modern audiences". That just means you didn't like it to begin with, otherwise you don't touch it. They're telling their own story under an existing and beloved franchise's name, and yelling at people who point out the disconnect.

Either make a new IP, or stick to the spirit of the writings of the author (or why buy it?!). Instead they pretend to care about the source, while changing it drastically (way more than P. Jackson btw, this show has a different foundation and overall philosophy). It really seems they bought it for its marketability ONLY, and to hell with those that disagree with the changes.

We’ve seen this play out 100 times before.

Another poorly written show, where the writers attempt to “reimagine” or “correct” a work of art that fans have held dear for many years.

When those fans voice their concerns or complaints, they are called some form of “ist” and ridiculed by the show runners.

In the end, money talks. And these cash grabs are not grabbing anything - they’re losing long term customers and hemorrhaging money.

Chris Gore has an excellent summary of this:
