I'm definitely a neophyte to mechanical keyboard culture but its pretty obvious that its being co-opted by and sold to normies.

I've observed that its the mechanical keyboard gamer scenes fault.



I remember it being the other way around -- there was a class of programmers that loved the old buckling-spring IBM mechanical keyboards, then about 15 years ago Das Keyboard started making a new stuff. It became a much more common shortly after when the patents on mechanical key-switches expired; Cherry and Gateron made their switches widely available and OEMs took it to the "wide niche" that it is today.
