I don't think his decision to refuse surgery was a 'stupid decision', he was just being human.

I'm afraid I don't see the distinction between "being human" and "making stupid decisions".



In the context of Kroft asking "how such an intelligent man could make such a seemingly stupid decision", human are naturally afraid of surgery, no want want their body open unless they have no choice; Steve too.


Just because he is a human doesn't mean that it's not a stupid decision, it will always be a stupid decision nothing will change that.


That implies that living at all costs is the "smart" thing to do.
