Wolvic (Igalia’s Stewardship of Firefox Reality) (wolvic.com)

I'm very happy about this. For a start Firefox Reality is the only way to view legacy WebVR content on a Quest (Oculus browser dropped support when they adopted WebXR).

Also it will hopefully support at least some extensions.

I just wish they would release a desktop VR build. There's a real gap there right now.

Does it not already? Pretty sure that I had a bunch of extensions installed before on my Firefox Reality install and, if this is just a fork of that I'd guess it also would.

(Annoyingly I recently removed Firefox Reality from my Quest due to space constraints, which have also kept me from testing Wolvic thus far).

So is this based on Servo or old-school Gecko?

From skimming the repo, looks like the latter. Too bad, I was hoping Igalia had figured out a way to finance Servo development.

It's a continuation of Firefox work. Servo would mean starting from scratch.

Besides, large chunks of Servo have already made their way into Gecko as part of Quantum: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gecko_(software)#Quantum

Still not sure how to get this onto PSVR2 when it comes out but it's exactly what they need.

The PS5 doesn't even have a general browser, psvr won't get one.
