The reality is that fossil fuels are dead. You can't get financing for new well development as you need about 10-15 years of guaranteed buyer contracts in hand to de-risk the investment. Go talk to any Shell/Chevron/Exxon/etc. project manager/product manager/business dev person. Exploratory wells have been dead for 5-10+ years, let alone provable reserves.

Germany didn't kill off their Nuclear power because it wasn't "green" they killed it off because a not insubstantial number of their legislature was politically funded by oligarchs wanting to sell pipeline gas to Europe. Fukushima was a nice scapegoat.
