One possible explanation I haven’t seen in the comments (or gotten to yet) is the massive increase in revenue related to graphics/GPU, partly from greater GPU as compute (ai/deep learning/non-display gpu tasks), as well as crypto mining.
(And a larger gaming market/audience over the past four or so years- gaming on mobile / live game streaming)
More $ / TAM = more R&D and competition in the space. (And more power/capabilities available for gaming may just be a nice byproduct )
