Ask HN: Scientific/Numerical Coding Job Openings?

I've looked at the job openings portion of HN many times, but don't typically see much from the scientific/algorithms side of things. I see a lot of web/database/backend/UI/ML jobs, and that's about it. I was curious how many people work on more scientific problems and what their software stack looks like and what they do. Is it a one off position, or are there many positions like that at your company?

Look at the jobs board of www.ccl.net and the biotech/pharma jobs in San Diego or Boston (possibly elsewhere). Lots of computational chemistry/machine learning kinds of jobs there. There are also several companies in N. America (OpenEye, Schrodinger, CCG) and in the UK (Dotmatics, Cresset, Optibrium) and Germany (BiosolveIT). There are also smaller companies in areas like QM and modelling and newer efforts in "modern CS technology". They just don't visit sites like HN very often.

EDIT: and for the highly-skilled reader, you can always look into DE Shaw research. Very interesting place...
