This is pretty much how it sounds - the particular synthesizer and tweaking its parameters (resonance, filtering, and so on) is the main defining feature, the particular classic drum machine used typically goes along with it - but there’s a lot more variation you can do besides just slowly modulating it like this program does, as well as crossovers to other genres (using that squeaky synth sound in other genres of electronic music).
