Most people in the world wouldn't be able to tell the difference between most people from another area. That's how the human brain works. "race" in the US is just a proxy for "out group". It's the only country I know of in which "race" is an official term (as in you have to give your "race" to get a driver license, ID card, &c.) no wonder americans have such a big issue with racism.

You hit the nail on the head.

I would argue that as long as one categorizes people by "race", they're still buying in to the racist mindset.
