How would we play it? The only decoders that exist are experiments or tests, and they are not currently optimised enough for mainstream use.


You can simply reencode the result of a low bitrate test using high bitrate H.264. It would take more bandwidth of course but the visual result would be more or less the same.


Also a webassembly decoder could probably do short clips.


No one has yet written a good performant decoder for native, let alone Wasm.

I don't dispute that it is theoretically possible - of course it is, people are making this codec for actual use, and I'm looking forward to it - just that it doesn't seem doable right now.
