I don't think the problem is about lack of innovative thought. The problem is a lack of a verification mechanism. Say I come to you with an amazing new black box. A candidate puts their hand in the box, and if a light on top of the box turns green, that will be a good employee and you should hire them. How do you verify whether my box works?
