In that regard I always find it odd how much philosophy and religion seem to have in common. Large parts of most religions basically boil down to convincing people of something for which there's no actual evidence solely by the use of philosophical and rhetorical devices, it's de-facto large scale social engineering.

Which basically makes religion something like the original "science of philosophy"?
