If it's about switching modes on vim, can't you just use Ctrl-[?

That combination is a massive pain to hit on many non-US keyboards.

I remapped my keys like this:

    CAPS-LOCK ⬅ CONTROL ⬅ ESCAPE ⬅ CAPS-LOCK

Escape is just too far away for my vim-flow. This has been much better. It's mostly positive outside of vim too. The only real gotcha is using another machine.

True but the screenshots released so far indicate that it's centred, so it's position will move depending on context. Not good for muscle memory.

No, it is positioned at the far left on all screen shots. There is a small, ugly, constant margin however.

I guess we'll know for sure once they ship. Hopefully, it could be be something that's configurable to preference.

I agree. I don't think they should have put the esc key there at all. I would have made the key to the left of the "1" key the Esc key, and moved the original functions of that key somewhere else.

However this is coming from a UK user on which the key in question has the symbols "§" and "±". Which I never type. I understand the US layout has some more useful symbols there.
