What’s their motivation to build tools like uv and ruff? What’s their business model?

They’re still figuring it out and I believe that they’re also still pre-revenue. With that being said, if you’re able to capture a large part of the python ecosystem, I imagine business ideas won’t be too hard to come by!

See also this comment which has more information from an interview with their founder.

A private package registry is a pretty exciting idea! I honestly wouldn't have expected that idea from them.

If they do pursue that idea, I wonder if they'd also have a public component to it that could act as a better PyPI?

Windsurf has plugins for Jetbrains products, for vim, for emacs, for Visual Studio (not code), XCode, and even eclipse. They try to get as much of the market as possible, while Cursor focuses on the core functionality.

Whenever I tried Windsurf Editor, or their plugin for vim, and Intellij, it didn't feel polished at all. The basic function of autocomplete felt much much snappier on Cursor, and even on GitHub Copilot for vim/intellij.

How do I short this

I’ve been reading hacker news only through hckrnews.com for years and never looked back

Thanks! Never knew about that one!

I love hckrnews! I even cloned it to tailor it to how I use it[1]. Still working on filters and point threshold.

Is there a way to search?

Justfile[0] was a more familiar makefiles replacement for me

Have enjoyed replacing makefiles with https://taskfile.dev/ which looks like it could be more powerful due to being able to detect changes etc. But glad Just has been good.

What’s the idea? Why do they use bots to reply?

To make it look like it is has actual engagement

What are they marketing?

I think this is exactly what’s going to happen with “super smart unsafe AI”. If it’ll be abused and overused like this, people will just stop tuning in to those media sources where AI can easily dominate.

AI dominates instagram space? Why bother scrolling through it? It’s not interesting anymore. AI dominates online media? Why bother getting your information online?

For grown ups sure.

For children (including "children of all ages"), who are extra suggestible and impressionable, it will be and already is very concerning.

Yeah, that is a different and very serious concern.

To me this sounds more like "message" problem, rather than "medium" one

Really cool! Why did you decide to start working on it? Because you wanted something simpler than what already exists, or just curiosity?

Obsidian works well on all systems. It has folders, markdown notes, and cloud sync. Switched to it from Bear because of Linux and quite happy.

Oh my god. Thanks!!
