Start with small talk! It's so valuable in establishing a baseline of "we're two humans in the same condition at heart, and the first thing I'm offering is a universally shared experience, and not talking crazy to you or starting a fight (physical or political or otherwise)"
A lot of people think it's just useless filler but it actually is so important and a valuable tool when meeting people!
Talk about the weather! I'm serious! And drop any kind of internal pretension about being too good for such an inane topic (if that applies to you). Embrace it as if you're meeting someone from a distant tribe, and you are both wary of each other, and you want to start things off on a good foot. Talking about things you know you both deal with and think about is literally perfect!
"Tradeoffs" that consumers don't get a say in. They don't deserve good faith discussions when they treat us like children and throw away the key when that infantilization destroys stuff in _our_ lives.
Dr. Chris Palmer: Diet & Nutrition for Mental Health | Huberman Lab Podcast #99
> My guest this episode is Chris Palmer, M.D., a board-certified psychiatrist and assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He explains the important connection between nutrition, metabolism and mental health and his pioneering work using the ketogenic diet to successfully treat patients with various mental illnesses, including depression and schizophrenia. Dr. Palmer explains how the ketogenic diet is an evidenced-based treatment for epilepsy, mimics the fasted state and can offset the cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s. He describes the key roles of mitochondria in mental health, how certain conditions likely arise from mitochondrial dysfunction, and how low-carbohydrate diets increase mitochondrial turnover to improve mental health. He also explains how low-carbohydrate diets positively impact the gut microbiome and weight loss, important risk factors for mitochondrial health such as marijuana and alcohol, and the best way to increase circulating ketones depending on individual needs. We also cover how a ketogenic diet impacts mood, sleep, and fertility. Dr. Palmer’s work stands as a revolutionary approach to mental health and disease that, given the prevalence of mental health challenges, should be of interest to people of all backgrounds and ages.
they do chime in and tell you all sorts of things "by the way, i can also play music while you're getting ready for bed" while i'm trying to concentrate and live my life lol.
just compile a list of all commands into an email and send that to me. i don't actually want to hear you talk, siri
No, because if there were a treatment as safe and effective as chemotherapy at treating cancer, but that didn't cause nausea or vomiting, we'd all switch to it in a heartbeat.
By that token, what specifically is the clinical benefit to the vomit stage of chemo?
The argument is that the vomiting is a necessary step of this powerful medicine, and that the medicine is curing mental disease.
I'm not defending ayahuasca, I actually do think it's a sketchy corner of the psychedelic world to be trodden on very carefully, if at all. Just trying to supply the perspective.
"What disease is ayahuasca fighting off? And specifically what is the the clinical benefit of the vomit stage?"
I have heard people describe ayahuasca purging as getting rid of mental and/or physical toxins... as getting rid of depression, emotional/psychological baggage, medical maladies, etc..
