Hey HN, I just launched my MVP and would love to see if it adds any value to you.

I built this in about 4 weeks after learning React Native during the pandemic. If I could get a few downloads and some feedback, I would really appreciate it.

This product is intended for people who rely on long blocks of time to be productive, like writers, software engineers, designers and students.

What inspired me to create this was Paul Graham’s essay “Maker’s Schedule, Manager’s Schedule”. I read it years ago but only got around to doing it now. Link: http://www.paulgraham.com/makersschedule.html

[Technical details]

This is a single-page React Native app. I used the Expo managed workflow to deploy to Google Play and the App Store. It’s running Firebase on the back-end. All tracks are licensed via Creative Commons and hosted on Firebase Storage.

[Vision]

As an engineer, I’ve always done my best work in 25 minute intervals while listening to instrumental music.

If people find this useful, my vision is to gamify productivity. Like Strava, but for those of us who sit at a computer all day. My hypothesis is that there is value in creating a universal productivity index/score that rewards consistency and regular breaks.

I feel like this could really help people live a healthier lifestyle while supporting artists and DJs that make instrumental mixes which are perfect for concentration and focus.

If you made it to this point and have any questions, feel free to post below. I’ll be around to discuss.

Hey everyone,

I just launched an MVP for my startup and I'd love to see if it adds any value to you.

Not everyone spends most of their time in meetings.

As software engineers, we need to stay focused for long periods of time but it can be difficult to stay productive. Sometimes there are too many interruptions, other times we forget to take breaks.

A lot of engineers I know do their best work when using a timer (Pomodoro Technique) combined with some kind of music. But over time, fiddling with timers and playlists can become repetitive.

So I created a simple work companion app that does two things:

1. Reminds you to take breaks (and keeps track of time so you don't get distracted) 2. Streams music that helps with concentration when the timer is on

This product could also help writers, visual designers and students.

My vision is to gamify productivity to help makers be more productive in a healthy way. Users would have a productivity score that improves based on consistency.

I’d be grateful if I could get feedback on the app (available on App Store and Google Play). In particular, I’d love to know if this has added any value to you at all.

PS: I was inspired to do this a long time ago by Paul Graham’s essay “Maker’s Schedule, Manager’s Schedule” but only got around to doing it now. Thanks Paul!

I use a basic lumbar support from Amazon and work in intervals that force me to take short breaks regularly. Exercise hasn't helped but I still do it carefully to stay energized.

The intervals have helped tremendously, not only with my back but just to stay fresh mentally and physically overall. I like the Pomodoro Technique, e.g. focus for 25 minutes followed by a 5-min break, but I don't do any of the other shit. I don't need an entire productivity system, just the intervals and some good house music.

To expand on exercise a bit, I'm not a doctor but in my personal experience it can actually be bad for your back. I went from the couch to running half marathons and hit a few back issues along the way. I'd say the key factors are: a) learning proper form and technique, including cardio; b) progression.

This. Notice how simplicity is also the most important thing for users. Typography and graphics aside, it's remarkable to see how modern your layout looks.
