they don't

Amazon's PE has always been this high

But their market cap hasn’t. Odds are they won’t 5x their size in the next five years as they did in their last five.

That's what people said 5 years ago.

Eventually they'll start being right. Not even Amazon can grow at this pace forever.

Their retail business is still in a tiny portion of the world.

not to mention continued cloud growth, not just as a market, but the AWS share of that growing market.

I’m not seeing estimates of Amazon at 5x larger business (revenue). Estimates have Amazon at ~2x revenue ($850ish B) in five years and earnings growth slower than current levels. Folks think they’ll grow, just not quite as fast.

We’ll see. I think it’s going to be hard to maintain today’s growth rate at this size.

What's interesting about this is I could see it coming a few days ago. Funding rates on FTX were super high, so you could see people were getting reckless with leverage leading up to this.

FTX?

It's a crypto derivatives exchange serving non US customers.

Its a crpyto exchange

Only because I was just reading the Wikipedia page before I posted this :)

It looks like Plan 9 failed simply because it fell short of being a compelling enough improvement on Unix to displace its ancestor. Compared to Plan 9, Unix creaks and clanks and has obvious rust spots, but it gets the job done well enough to hold its position. There is a lesson here for ambitious system architects: the most dangerous enemy of a better solution is an existing codebase that is just good enough.

Thank you! :)

Thanks for jumping in Jarred. My mistake, I wasn't aware of the rule and just wanted to share you project because it was so cool.

This is awesome! I'll definitely be adding it to my next newsletter email!

Thanks!

If you like this, I do a weekly roundup of open source projects that includes an interview with one of the devs you can subscribe to.

FYI, I don't think you can submit someone else's project as a Show HN. See the rules here: https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html

(I'm not the creator, but am friends with the creator who is 'Jarred on here)

oh really?! I wasn't aware of that rule! my bad :(.

Jarred posted this on another project that I posted and I thought it was awesome so I wanted to share.

What do I do? I don't want to delete it since it seems to be getting traction.

Can you please stop posting promotionally like this? https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&que...

It's not what this site is for, and HN users eventually have an allergic reaction and start using the s-word.

This is in the site guidelines: "Please don't use HN primarily for promotion. It's ok to post your own stuff occasionally, but the primary use of the site should be for curiosity."
