I have been setting up a low cost home IP camera solution recently as well. I have also found like others mention, although some of the hardware is OK, on the software side all IP cameras that I have looked at are garbage. hacky linux firmware, needing apps and cloud accounts to config, etc.
I also found zoneminder and shinobi not that great either, I've ended up with a "simpler" setup using the basic "motion" Linux motion detect program, and using Jellyfin to view the video files created.
So far the "least worst" of the low cost IP cameras I have tried have been TPLINK TAPO.. once they are configured for onvif and IP set by tying to mac address, they can be blocked from the internet access at the firewall and work fine standalone.
The only non-TPLINK app I have found that can work with the PTZ mode of the TAPO C210 is the proprietry ONVIER android app.
I have recently gone down this path and the observation of the animal life of all kinds moving around the area has been a pleasant unintended side effect as well.

“Animal detected at Front Door” has become one of my favourite notifications. It turns out our driveway is a popular place for neighborhood cats to investigate. They, so far, have always been happy to get some scratches and tummy rubs.

Loading that in Mastodon's "Web" says it contains "4 posts", but consulting the "Posts and replies" tab will reveal the contents of 5 posts. Meanwhile, this number is about half of the expected number, based on the posts that are actually visible on the <https://hexa.ninja/> landing page (i.e. as viewed in e.g. Firefox).

That is incorrect. Mastodon is the one doesn't handle old posts[1], because they insist on presenting to the user only what has already been federated with it. See [2] for a more in-depth explanation.
If they would use the protocol as intended, and actually perform requests on the remote Outbox collection when the user wants to view the posts of a remote actor, there would be no issue.

The instance's very first Hello World post <https://hexa.ninja/o/4473c26694414f928466337c1a9e0fc6> appears, while more recent ones don't. There's probably no one actually following this account from this instance. (Hard to check.)
As the article notes: it became a symbol of potency an empire. A lab-made diamond just doesn't have enough blood on it to mean anything: it'd be a giant synthetic rock.
The jewellery value of it comes exactly from what you wrote.
Like you could buy a $15 Casio wrist watch and it will tell you time just fine, but if you buy a Rolex you aren't exactly paying for time keeping. The value here is not time or time keeping, it is meant to show the wages and expenses of people/resources taken to produce it up the chain.
