Who are 'you'?

pretty low, considering that a movie like Avatar made approx $3 billion in revenues.

$1.1 billion in profit. But it was certainly an exception to the average film.

It probably made more than $1.1 billion in actuality, thanks to Hollywood accounting. :)

I'd say they wouldn't be so careless as to show a profit if that value was the result of Hollywood accounting

1.1B should be about it. But on paper for the tax man it's mostly like 500Mi loss

Star Wars merchandise and expanded universe rights will generate an insane revenue stream (Legos, Video Games, DVD re-releases. . Hasboro toys, books, etc.) on top of a new movie coming out in 2015 that will only supercharge those streams.

On top of that, you get extra bonuses such as Indiana Jones and all its associated merchandising.

Disney just bought itself a nice constant revenue stream that will keep generating golden eggs so long as Star Wars remains a core part of American culture.

the narrative structure that people respond to is objective and possibly derived from ancient myths. disney follows this structure rather than invent it.

The anti-communist revolution is known to have happened in '89, but that wasn't a one time event, it is a still ongoing process and it's things like How To Web that actually make it happen for Eastern Europe right now.

if it wasn't for my Romanian developers, i would've never been able to build SlickFlick without any money or being able to code.

That's the thing, Romanians are also natural born 'poets', i.e. lateral thinkers. There is a lot to be said about Romania, place of real cultural confluence, turks, germans, hugarians, soviets, greek-ortodox, communist yet latin background, etc. It's not just about the codding.

I'm sorry, but everyone expects 'smart & gets things done' not poets with cultural confluence of whatever.

What does matter is expertise, skills and learning, all other staff is completely irrelevant. (See http://www.computer.org/portal/web/csdl/doi/10.1109/TSE.2009...)

Because I'm Romanian and I'm writing about my experience. Saying that, I know some with great feedback from Poland, like WAYN guys and others.

Ridiculous math and CS education consistently all over the map for over 50 years. Like advanced calculus in high school. Plus hungry.

Great opinion piece! Thanks Mircea.
