- NodeJS, ReactJS, Postgres, on Linux (via DigitalOcean)
- Booted with Terraform. Opened & traffic-secured with Nginx + Certbot
- Everything running in Docker
Why did you choose it?
- JS: To reduce context switching, and I have a high level of familiarity with it
- Terraform: To automate & speed up server experimentation
- Docker: To make the app easier to transport & access
Do you think your choices had any impact on your success?
(i think this question is not well formulated. "any impact"? anything & everything can have "any impact" because its "any" as in "anything". It's like asking "Does anything impact you?" "Uh, yes, I am alive. Everything I encounter and perceive impacts me.". Maybe formulate a more specific/less vague question)
I am vague with intent so it is a broad question that can be answered in many ways. You are of course free to interpret the question the way you like.
I guess the reasoning behind why I started asking was because I was curious on how one-man shows run their technical aspects and then I just continued to ask since it became quite popular.
I think it's interesting to see how technical choices evolve over time, especially with very small companies since that is what I am most interested in creating myself.
do you mean make housing available? (I ask because "accomodations" could mean other things)
If so-- Who would pay for that housing?
Are you opening your door and renting out rooms for free? Do you expect other people to do so?
Asking my tax dollars to go towards the housing of an illegal entrant... when there are legal entrants waiting years to enter the country... Nah, doesn't make sense. Sounds more like theft.
Crossing the border illegally is the same as barging through my locked door into my house. And it's especially egregious when there is a system created specifically for LEGAL immigration.
It's a slap in the face to those who follow the lawful process, in our orderly society...
...by a person coming from a disorderly society (where 90%+ of crimes go unpunished-- as is the case in Mexico)
...who thinks they have the right to break the law in a country they aren't even legally allowed to enter.
Thanks! This is a good list. And it's really useful to have. I hope these missing features get incorporated into Linux distro developers' roadmaps.
I use MacOS because things just work. In using Ubuntu desktop, my UX just works most of the time, but I occasionally experience some strange UX bugs, and missing features.
For free software though it's pretty darn alright :)
"The unfortunate truth is that we have so heavily subsidized and centralized food production that anyone focusing on biodiversity, sustainability, or even animal welfare can compete economically."
...Compete... With what? I don't understand what you're saying.
Farms can't compete with farms?
To me it seems such a statement's validity would vary wildly because the value of land relative to intentions for agriculture or conservation, is dependent on geography.
It's not as though all areas receive the same subsidies or even need them. Nor do we know what subsidies or amounts are even being discussed. The whole statement just seems vague and undefined to me.
Say we're discussing private real estate in the context of agriculture & ecology-- Focusing on biodiversity, for example, has a much different ROI and perspective on that ROI, on the boundaries of a national park vs in a suburban neighborhood.
- Keep practicing meditation. Use it as an exercise in focus.
- Sit and study. When you feel bored, close your eyes, take a deep breathe in and out, meditate for a bit. After a couple (or a few) minutes (maybe even get up for a stroll or a little break), then, continue work.
Re-Program your mind:
- Listen to motivational speeches & music daily on youtube and spotify
- Example Channels: Eric Thomas, David Goggins, Motiversity, Fearless Motivation.
Lastly: Exercise
If you're don't 1. have a focus practice, and if you aren't 2. actively programming your mind to create positive, optimistic though cycles, and aren't 3. exercising, then these are three important things that I recommend to you, which really helped me develop my discipline skill.
I don't have a focus/attention problem. None at all. I am better than others at maintaining focus and concentration.
I already meditate almost daily. I exercise every day and also walk ~4 miles each day.
I am sure you are well meaning, but I disagree with you on the motivational speeches part. I find those guys to be awfully filled with themselves, and annoying. They are in the sole business of selling motivation. If your life's biggest achievement is selling motivational speeches as events/books/courses, then I am going to pass. I found motivational speeches helpful when I was maybe 12.
Many people also suffer from survivorship bias and lack nuance and extremely hot-gas-full for my taste.
I am more motivated by people I know achieving highly, or true stories of people fighting adversity to make it big in life. E.g. the project head of India's moon lander mission supposedly didn't have electricity growing up (according to an HN comment a few days ago).
Something like OAuth2 or OICD "Permission Scopes" -- the permissions that a user can grant your app, just prior to their accepting the log in via that particular social-media authentication provider.
