Hi this is to cover the cost of the non-profit. There's a thing called fiscal sponsorship where you can basically let people use your non-profit status and it's great for kids who want to throw hackathons to not worry about taxes, but hack club still needs to pay for that non-profit status.

This is awesome!

Thanks jrubinovitz! We tried to make it as easy as possible to do the right thing (QA + code review at once).

That's so important when you're shipping at startup speed and it's so tempting to just rush to the next thing. I am going to try this with my next cross platform app.

It's very helpful to know you can negotiate with tech transfer offices. I always assumed their (not-go-great) terms were non-negotiable and was super dissuaded against starting something while a researcher at a university.

You _can_ negotiate with tech transfer offices, but it might not lead to much.

We have been fighting with ours for ~8 years now. The terms keep getting worse. I think all told, and if I were to repeat it, I would certainly scrap the IP I made in those early days and start fresh when starting the company. Like they mention in the article, chances are you'll pivot a number of times anyway, making the IP largely irrelevant, but you'll still have given up significant equity for it, and likely have a difficult shareholder onboard for life.

(edit: at least this is my anecdotal evidence, and what I gather from some other people having interacted with my particular tech transfer office...)

what are you working on?

Traumatic memories are accepted as sometimes being stored in some capacity in human body regions other than the head, I'd be very interested in seeing if this is connected, as research progresses.

I'd give my right arm to forget that trauma.

Well done, loved the use of interactive graphics. Curious if you will continue this approach, but for more advanced cryptography, or move on to other things. Would love a more in depth guide to cryptography in this format.

Your comment seems to be 100% independent of this accusation.

Indeed. Just sharing my experience with them.

If these are your issues as well, you can join in and help fix them. No one is trying to invalidate your problems; this is a call to action for better engineering management practices.

Except when you interview only women about reasons they leave companies, what you hope to discover is why more women than men might be leaving. This article offers no insight on that question.

I guess we disagree there.

I think you email them and are not a jerk and have a stupid website and then you have one.

smart organizers, stupid hackathons.

I think it's more that hiring and coddling ~600 white men is really expensive.

Any more ignorance/racism you'd care to share with us today?
