It blew my mind as a kid

I was maybe 10/11 when the Nokia 3330 came out, and being able to use the internet while not in front of a computer just felt like magic

Yeah none of this is new if you've been working in this industry for a while

We've always been having these debates over whether my choice of tech is better than your choice of tech, same holy wars, different type of tech

The advice today is the same as it was 10/20/30+ years ago, pick what works for you and build something good with it

Nobody will actually care how you built it, regardless of whether its good or crap (although if it's crap you can blame your tools)

There's a small caveat to this, technically in the UK the police are allowed to speed if they are heading to an emergency, they don't need livery on their cars or even sirens

So if you're in the outer lane and the person behind you wants to go faster than you and get past, get out of their way.

It's safer anyway, and also you don't know who they are or where they're going.

You keep left unless overtaking. If an unmarked police car is behind you then that doesn’t matter, you still only sit in lane 2/3/4 when overtaking slower traffic in lanes to the left.

There are a few exceptions of course - when lanes are diverging for example (so 12 going off one way and 34 going another).

What is this, Reggy?

I was actually shocked when I saw what our org pays for Github, not cheap and defo not free

So how do I run it? the readme is pure AI slop

There must be a name for that offputting feeling , when you are reading something, and the more you read it, it just feels less human?

Sorry Connor, I'm sure you're a lovely bloke, but a lot of this scream "AI"

Yep, there's already a term for this - the uncanny valley.

I've never heard of you Cliff, but still glad to hear you're still with us lol

It's a shame, he's a genuinely cool guy! If I wasn't convinced that my kids would find a way to break it when I wasn't looking I'd definitely have an Acme Klein Bottle by now.

For sure, I just like learning about cool people and also knowing they are still around to do cool things

What's the opposite of the black bar? Should HN have a green bar for things like this?

The latest in a long line of articles where "Raymond Chen" is my first thought before even opening it, just based on the title

Great read

Same here... actually I think most HN submissions with an interesting title and coming from "microsoft.com" are his.
