That's the first thing I disable every time I set up oh-my-zsh on a new box. I think it should not be a default behaviour and should only be enabled if needed.
This is from the paper. "I tried again, and it was a huge breakthrough: Mario jumped up to get all the coins, and then almost immediately jumped back down to continue the level! On his first try he beat 1-2 and then immediately jumped in
the pit at the beginning of 1-3 just as I was starting to
feel suuuuuper smart (Figure 7). On a scale of OMFG
to WTFLOL I was like whaaaaaaat?"
My desktop is my workbench. With the trash sitting right there in the corner I do my stuff and at the end I keep the artefacts I want and throw the rest away.
It might look messy but it actually keeps reminding me of the things I need to get done.
By W3C validator do you mean the Markup Validation Service or the Web Accessibility Initiative aka WAI? I think WAI validators were introduced to address the issue you raised in your experiment. Is this true?
Anyhow, I can't agree more, "being W3C valid means jack".
While being "W3C valid" (passing validation according to a DTD or schema for the HTML) is insufficient, it's still useful in that tools, including screen readers, can more reliably process the content of a valid page than an invalid page.
Part of me thinks if you made "starting contests" free for customers, you'd get more traction. On the other hand the other part of me thinks that you've already tried this approach, or at least thought about it. So, which part of me is right?
Also two tiny notes about your front page:
1. I, personally, get really pissed when I'm informed about fees of a service in any step of the process other than the first one. So, I'd suggest show the fees somewhere above the fold.
2. This is more of a UX thing. In the "How it works" box, make the titles clickable.
I love the idea. Simple, yet has a lot of potential. Will be start my own contest someday soon.
Definitely agree with #2, I spent a little too long trying to click the titles. The "Next Step" button should also be a color other than white so it stands out more.
I think this is an awesome idea, though! Will definitely use it in the future.
For a second I was really excited about this, until I realised I don't have an iPhone. Not saying as a startup you should shift your focus on other platforms at all, but are you guys working on an Android app at the moment?
I've been using VirtualBox for the last 15 months on a daily basis. I've used it on Windows XP, Windows 7, Ubuntu and recently on Mac hosts with Windows XP, Windows 7, and Ubuntu guests. I've never ran into any problems with it. The only thing that doesn't work properly is 3D Acceleration which I think has something to do with my system's graphics card probably.
Two of my friends however lost their guest machines (Windows and Ubuntu) on the Mac version. Hope it doesn't happen on my Mac.
In my opinion, VirtualBox is an amazing piece of software, and calling it "garbage" is harsh and unprofessional.
