I'm a 2025 grad, and am looking for a good full time software engineering role. I've worked at Morgan Stanley as a fullstack engineer on complex services to help ingest IB documents into an internal LLM based search tool, and as an intern at a small single digit headcount startup remotely on Chromium patches to aid in web scraping. I experiment with lots of new tech constantly, especially with coding agents, and strive to improve my systems. Recently I've gotten into self-hosting my own instances of Nitter and Redlib, and created an agent harness of my own called omega to help maintain private forks of software I use, like Tailscale.
I'm particularly interested in open source, computer networking and associated software. I recently reverse engineered the Playstation app with a combination of static and dynamic techniques and automated updating metadata by pulling it straight out of the obfuscated native libraries it is embedded in. I've been constantly updating and experimenting with my NixOS config to improve security, privacy and/or add more self-hosted services. Back in college I hacked around and built a peer to peer file transfer program to learn Rust, including the file transfer protocol too (you can check it out on https://github.com/gotlougit/p2p-file-transfer or on https://git.sr.ht/~gotlou/p2p-file-transfer). I did this mostly being inspired by Tailscale and also out of frustration of how getting uncompressed photos from friends was a mess.
Hi, I’ve worked in this problem space (browser patching for scraping), have Rust experience and think I could be a good fit. If you’re open to it, I’d love to chat. I've sent my application under the email hi@gotlou.com
I love learning new things and am a fast learner. Currently I am messing around with local LLMs burning my laptop CPU and also writing a new agent harness called omega that uses Unix user separation to sandbox commands and encourages a Linux kernel mailing list-like workflow (blog post to come!). I started dabbling in reverse engineering and set up a nice workflow to keep my reverse-engineered PlayStation App library up to date with new releases after having figured out the native library works with the help of open models.
In the past I've worked on applications ranging from an enterprise Java, .NET and Angular stack, to writing C++ patches for Chromium for web scraping, and have also participated in Google Summer of Code 2023 for the Tor Project on Arti, their Rust rewrite of tor.
Looking for further opportunities, including but not limited to Rust, web browsers and LLMs. Let's get in touch!
I'm a student, and am looking for a good internship experience in the first half of 2024. I am currently a Google Summer of Code contributor at the Tor Project, and have contributed to Arti, the Rust rewrite of Tor in C, working beside the Arti devs.
I'm particularly interested in open source, computer networking and associated software. A while back I hacked around and built a peer to peer file transfer program to learn Rust, including the file transfer protocol too (you can check it out on https://github.com/gotlougit/p2p-file-transfer or on https://git.sr.ht/~gotlou/p2p-file-transfer). I love learning new things and am a fast learner. Currently I am writing (and using!) a more secure, drop-in SSH agent replacement (at https://git.sr.ht/~gotlou/sshield or https://github.com/gotlougit/sshield) which encrypts SSH keys and unlocks them with a master password, with planned features including using Linux sandboxing mechanisms such as Landlock or seccomp-bpf to make the agent process less prone to RCEs.
This is amazing news, and I've found that thanks to Proton patches being upstreamed by Valve and CodeWeavers, not to mention the Wine community, that games that run on Proton tend to run using vanilla Wine as well, thus improving compatibility for Wine in general!
I post tech-related stuff, mostly just about projects I've built and more recently open source contributions under GSoC. The templating system to publish posts is very basic and custom, I wrote it in Python a couple years ago and never looked back.
I also appreciate some other tech, like using MicroG or Tailscale.
