Yesterday I was looking for good BlackFriday deals for developers (i.e: courses, ebooks, dev tools,…) I asked on twitter, and called some friends but I didn’t get what I was looking for. And then a friend of mine asked me to send him any good deals I’d find.

So I thought maybe instead of tweeting about the deals I find and share them just with this one friend, it would be much better to build a small web app to list all these good deals, and allow other people to collaborate and add the deals they come across.

So I spent a few hours last night and I built… wait for it… BlackFridayDealsForDevelopers.com

I hope you’ll find this useful

The horizontal ad at the top skews mobile fyi.

Not really :)

I am a big fan of freakonomics podcast, I think it is the only podcast that I have listened to all of its episodes (more than 300).

what I like more about freekonomics is the quality of the great books they usually discuss in their podcasts, they do even interview their authors sometimes.

Since I’m always seeking new good books to read, I’ve gone ahead and collected all of their books in one easy to use website, not only to fill my own need, but for anyone interested in this great list.

If you and me are in the same club, feel free visit and share

Have you ever wanted to “bookmark” a tweet but ing it didn’t seem appropriate? Or you didn’t want your followers to know that you “liked” this or that tweet?

Or did you a tweet, but when you got back to it after few hours (or few days) you couldn't find it, either because it was deleted, or because you ed so many tweets that it became difficult to find what you are looking for?

botmarker solves all these problems (and many more).

botmarker is a bot that helps you bookmark tweets you like and organize them into categories (#tags) without revealing what you are interested in to your followers (or stalkers :) ). botmarker also keeps a copy of tweets you bookmarked even if they get deleted.

botmarker is NOT a “standalone” app (no need to install any additional apps), but rather it is more like an add-on to twitter, and you can use it “inside” your favorite twitter client. All what you need to do to bookmark a tweet is to DM it to @botmarker. You can add hashtags to you DMs to organize them by categories.

We are opening our public beta today, and we would love to get your feedback about our app.

You can buy a PDF/Epub/Mobi version if you want, but the ebook content itself is freely available in that page:

it was meant as a bit of a joke but honestly I was unaware of the existence of Mozilla phones

Not a single post in 2 years :D

I hope this will change after the release of PHP7

"Iliad is a French provider of telecommunication services. It is based in Paris and its operations comprise fixed and mobile telephony services, prepaid phone cards and internet access providing and hosting services. The company was founded by Xavier Niel in 1999." -Wikipedia

That's not exactly what I'm after. Being so far removed from the country they're based in, I have no idea what the general sentiment about the company is.

How is their customer service? Are their product offerings priced competitively? Do they generally "go to bat" for their customers on issues like privacy and net neutrality?

On a scale of Google Fiber to Comcast, how do they rate?

Extremely competitive pricing, so so customer support (well, understaffed so hard to reach but polite and competent, nothing like the horror stories coming from the US).

Very simple commercial offering, little in the way of options and extra charges.

They design lots of their networking equipment, from the triple play boxes customer get to some of their core infrastructure.

They also keep their engineering in house, where the competition (Orange, SFR, Bouygues) relies a lot on external companies for about everything...

A very peculiar company, unlike any other in France, save maybe OVH the hosting giant.

(... nothing like the horror stories coming from the US).

I've had really good experiences with Tmob customer support, so I get aprehensive when there is acquistion talk.

> Being so far removed from the country they're based in

You do know that T-Mobile is German, yes? [1]

[1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsche_Telekom

Yes, but they do business in the US. Aldi is German as well, but they have stores in the US so Americans can visit and form their own opinions about the brand. Not so with Illiad, so T-Mobile being owned by DT isn't relevant to the discussion.

I am not sure how it is not relevant. Tmobile is owned by Deutsche Telekom, a German company. T Mobile operates in the US and many other countries. If this offer goes through, T mobile US will be owned by Free, a French company. But it will continue to operate in the US.

I'll break it down. Generally, an acquisition implies some type of change. Not always, obviously, but usually when a company gets bought, its customers are going to feel some effects.

Now, current customers of T-Mobile know the company pretty well. They know its reputation, its quality of service, its recent history, etc. If, for example, AT&T were considering acquiring T-Mobile, these customers would have some idea of what to expect. They have all heard of AT&T, know its reputation, service, etc. So they could make some reasonable assumptions about what is going to change.

However, these customers probably haven't heard of Iliad. They don't know its reputation, its quality of service, its history, anything. So making any guesses about what this acquisition would entail is very difficult.

The locations of these companies are only relevant because they give us an idea of whether most people know anything about each company. T-Mobile is based in Germany, but that doesn't matter, everyone in the US knows them anyway. Free is based in France, which does matter because most Americans have never heard of them and know nothing about them.

Ah, I understand what you're saying right now. Still, if this offer were to go through, I'm willing to bet that 95% of Americans will not know the parent company's name - as is the case today (a shock I see on everyone's face when I tell them that T-Mobile is essentially a German company, or at least owned by one).

Semantics and a poor choice of wording on my part. T-Mobile may be based in Germany, but they do operate in the US and are one of the most well-known cellular providers.

> How is their customer service?

Not that bad, not that great, and its developers are underpaid ;) (I was one of them).

it's the unlimited plan (I'll update that page)

with the free plan you can schedule up to 5 tweets and 5 facebook status at a time

Deleteitlater would be the Anti-Buffer :)

You could use DeleteItLater to prevent Buffer Overflow.

Sorry, I'll show myself out.
