Ok, we've erinarianed the title above.

I can understand the feeling of loyalty to a widely admired figure (and deservedly so!) but this isn't a great way to respond to someone else's work. Unless there's some evidence of ill intent, why not just classify it as an homage?

"Please don't post shallow dismissals, especially of other people's work. A good critical comment teaches us something."

"Please respond to the strongest plausible interpretation of what someone says, not a weaker one that's easier to criticize. Assume good faith."

totally, I wrongly assummed ill intent as I thought it was fabiens work for a good while and then came back here frustrated

You crossed into personal attack with this comment. That's not allowed here, so please don't.

If you wouldn't mind reviewing https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html and taking the intended spirit of the site more to heart, we'd be grateful.

Gaijin is not a personal attack, it means foreigner. So perhaps there was a misunderstanding, otherwise, could you point out the personal attack?

It was more obvious before you edited the comment (and in principle we appreciate it when people edit their comments to dampen or remove personal attacks), but the bit that begins "Do you live there?" and ends "boot such gaijin out" is still saying much the same thing. You can make your substantive points without getting personal like that.

I'm at a loss here tbh because that sentiment is what the article is about. But yes I did edit the comment to make it less personal and more about the sentiment that has led to these changes in the VISA requirements.

Please don't post unsubstantive comments.

The previous thread was only on the frontpage for 30 minutes so we can let this one stay up.

(I've taken "the fuck" out of the title - we don't care about profanity per se but that bit is a little linkbaity in this case.)

Comments moved thither. Thanks!

That's right, but on HN the criterion for dupiness is something like "are X and Y different enough to support substantially different discussions".

Comments moved thither. Thanks!

> You're a special type of stupid aren't you?

Personal attacks will get you banned here, regardless of how right you are or feel you are. No more of this, please.

If you'd please review https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html and stick to the rules when posting here, we'd appreciate it.
