I had similar problems with that bot recently (i.e. the python bot "certbot"), so I looked around and found a very nice alternative named PJAC[0]. I have now switched a bunch of my domains to use PJAC, and so far it works like a charm. Its only dependency is Java (version 8 or higher). Everything else is bundled in the downloaded artifact, just as it should be.

Use self-hosted repos like gitlab or fossil, and then mirror the public parts to github.


My wife got one of those (or a similar model), and it was very helpful for her, especially during the toughest part of winter here when it's completely dark for 17 hours. For me on the other hand, I just made a deliberate mental switch when I was around 35 years old when I decided, for efficiency reasons, to stop working late evenings and doing all-nighters, and tried to catch the early bird instead. The switch was surprisingly easy for me, but YMMV of course. And I've since started working late evenings for a bit again, but my sleep habits have stuck.

That's psychosis, i.e. when perceptions don't correspond to reality. Mental illness is a much larger concept than just psychosis.


The condition "you can pretty much build it yourself" forces me to exclude many things with important impact like for example nuclear reactors, LSD, birth control pills, and the silicon transistor. But I think steam engines (or Rankine cycle engines in general) and penicillin are simple enough to qualify.


When I read Alexander Shulgin, the psychedelic chemist’s biography, I was struck by the fact that when he wanted to do LSD with some friends, he actually synthesised it in his lab.


Yeah, Shulgin was a special case, he was a genius biochemist after all. And there are of course lots of people who have synthesized LSD using fairly standard lab equipment. But it's not like something anyone could do.

The airplane is a big one and I'm building one myself in my garage, as did the inventors of the first airplane. Hell, a solid chunk of all other inventions were created in someones garage. Compared to a full scale airplane, making nuclear reactors or transistors yourself is even easier and the transistor is easily the single biggest invention of the past century.


I thought of penicillin, too, but "build it yourself" ruled it out, in my view.

I agree, it's mostly a matter of words. But just for the record, quaternions in general are 4D isoclinic rotations (with optional scaling). Aneutronic reactors are good of course, but the Sun still puts out lots of other dangerous radiation. In particular, ultraviolet electromagnetic radiation from the Sun causes tens of thousands of cancer deaths every year. I have no problem accepting a few percent of that mortality from man-made radiation sources if that helps solving the CO2 emission crisis.


Good. For the foreseeable future, the limit of energy available from solar will be the total surface area of the Earth divided by two.

And that includes hydro from evaporation-rainfall cycling, photosynthesis, and wind. Which basically leaves as alternate energy sources tidal, from the sun and moon dragging the oceans around, energy stored from long periods of solar absorption in ages past, residual geothermal, and nuclear.

A little neutron-activated waste is indeed a small price to pay.


That's a good question. Maybe we should focus on prosecuting everyone who publishes photos of others without their consent? Or not. But that's a question that's completely unrelated to the question of consenting to facial recognition.
