I think that's a false equivalent.

No Democrat president threatened to take over Greenland or took another head of state hostage without precedent.

Yes, they are corrupt and warmongers, but not nearly as harmful as the current Republican party.

I like Material Symbols best. Largest selection AFAIK and simple enough that you can create unique ones that fit in.

My only issue with Material-anything is it immediately looks/feels to me like something Google-related.

Not a deal-breaker entirely, but for my own things I like differentiate.

I see your point and like to do things myself, just so they're mine, but I feel like there's only so many ways to skin a cat and draw a plus symbol.

Most users will not care if they have seen a map icon in another app before anyway.

If you use rounded or outline variants it's a bit different at least. There's also the two-tone variant which at least I haven't seen used much

Thank you for sharing that story. Mel seems virtuousic, but is that really art? Optimizing pattern positioning on a drum for maximum efficiency. Is that expression?

> Is that expression?

If it wasn't expression everyone would get the same result. But no one else at Royal McBee did things the way Mel Kaye did things.

Kaye had a strong artistic vision for how things should be done; he didn't want to use the ergonomic features of the RPC-4000 because they didn't align with his vision. I think he found the idea of rigging the blackjack program offensive in part for the same reason.

Speaking for myself, I have always found the story and "pessimal" instructions beautiful. It's my favorite piece of folklore of all time. Kaye and Nather are both artists to me.

Tangentially, Kaye is standing on the far right in this photo.

And here is Nather.

If you consider engineering the art of the possible. (Yes, I know it's a politician's phrase, that's because politics is the art of the plausible ... )

In his youth he was heavily inspired heavily by the book "1000 ways to make 1000 dollars", quite literally a get rich quick book.

Also his bets on GEICO were probably a little impatient, reckless, and unscrupulous, but that's fine.

He is one of the finest businessmen to study and certainly one of the more moral billionaires.

Here comes the internet doing internet things. Happy 2026.
