their AppKit implementation receives about 20-30 commits every 5 years. Cool project, but you are better off waiting for proprietary software manufacturers to release ARM64 builds (a lot of them do now) and patch the holes with FEX.

There is really no "they", all Nexus phones weren't made by Google. Hence why, the 5X aside, everyone has nice memories of them.

I had the Galaxy Nexus (Samsung) and the Nexus 6. I may have had the Nexus 4 or 5, I dont remember. I had a few HTC phones before that and the DROID by Moto before that as my original smart phone. The DROID was peak - I miss the slide out keyboard.

The nexus 4 was also really mediocre. Only partial 4g and poor battery life iirc.

The nexus 5 also by LG was bulls eye though. Except for the ceramic letters constantly falling off.

HN users are so hilariously out of touch with the Android world they are downvoting your completely correct observation.

I'd probably get more useful information reading Hindi Telegram groups without translating anything

GrapheneOS has got absolutely nothing to do with any of this. LineageOS, pure AOSP, are all the same. No bloat, no locks. The way they've successfully marketed a more involved custom ROM as a special OS to tech illiterates is very funny I'll admit.

His point wasn't that chinese-made products have more vulnerabilities, what? what are these reading skills. GoPro has probably never been in a patent litigation in their favor. His point wasn't limited to GoPro either.

The main driving force isn't anything but the simple fact that they can undercut everyone. Some of it is innovation in production methods, some of it subsidies, some of it is the low salaries, some of it is the 12hour shifts seen as normal.

Is it deserved? Sure. They let western companies unintentionally ship their entire know-how to China. Is it OK from a US perspective, does it mean that they can't do anything now, and should just source Chinese products for everything? Hell no.

Thanks for making HN as braindead as Reddit! Thanks to people like you, I'm becoming a master at translating Chinese socials!

Just don't listen to someone who tells you that you need a custom ROM to have a phone not suck in 2026. Google's hardware has been middling (camera sensors, display) to downright trash (the Tensor SoCs) ever since the P6, and GrapheneOS won't magically make its modem Qualcomm or even Mediatek.

built to work with an OpenAI API compatible endpoint, just like any other harness...

and if someone can't figure out how to write down an address it's very likely they also can't figure out how to make local models not suck for coding, and would likely switch back to codex/cc after 15 minutes anyways.

the evolution of english speaking forums*. Which is rather unfortunate as a tech entusiast, as Russian forums are dying down and the only alternative are the walled Chinese forums.

we could create a new HN in 10 minutes, one that expressely prohibits politics AND posts about how many eggs chickens lay in a week (where half the comments would probably end up discussing the decision in 2020 of the american gov to cull infected chickens), but it would have approxitely 0 users.

there is reddit for that, go there.

preface: I use chinese models daily. I'm not american, I don't care if it's china or the US spying me.

true, they were not obvious at all about what they did to the Uyghurs. Thanks for helping turn HN into lightweight Reddit.
