This post seems to be about writing stories, where the primary goal might be to evoke emotion rather than efficiently convey information. Obsessing over the craft of writing seems appropriate in that context.

-40° Celsius is actually equal to -40° Fahrenheit, it's the temperature at which the two meet. 0° Fahrenheit is about -18° Celsius, did you perhaps multiply 0 by 5/9 then subtract 32 instead of the other way around?

Except the rich person can only get the equivalent of a fraction of their wealth as a loan, and cannot use the rest without liquidating. When using this approach they effectively have direct access to significantly less money than they would have if they liquidated their assets and paid the taxes on the gains. You could do the same, but likely want to utilize a greater portion of your wealth to live on.

Your mental gymnastics are impressive.

A person with 10M (or 100M or >1B) only gets to live on a few hundred thousand a year and doesn't have to pay tax.

I live on ~$50k a year and pay tax.

I'm not sure there's any universe where there is anything other than an unfair playing field here.

Up For X: https://upforxapp.com/

I wanted to learn React Native and decided to build something simple and whimsical that I could see myself using.

The app lets you set a status about what activity you want to do and see what your friends have set; ideally simplifying the first step in making plans with friends.

It's still missing push notifications and some other key features, but I've gotten the basic functionality of adding friends and seeing and setting statuses up and running.

Reminds me of Google's "who's down for" app: https://www.greenbot.com/article/2999629/whos-down-is-google...

Huh, I'm surprised I never saw this. Thanks for the link

I'm guessing that's more true for people buying high-end fashion than it is for those buying high-end hobbyist gear, as the latter are more likely to research products and put significant weight on performance rather than blindly trust a brand name.
