I had no idea Heroin was originally a trademarked cough suppressant.

As you might expect, it's an exceptionally effective cough suppressant.

I was using a Fedora release with the 6.10 kernel, and I experienced frequent logouts and restarts, almost once per day. It's nice to see that others were having similarly poor experiences.

Does anybody know about the legality of using Eminem's "Gozilla" as promotional material[1] for this service?

I thought you had to pay artists for a license before using their work in promotional material.

Parody is fair use.

Yeah, that seems right:

Looks positive to me!

Kinda? It makes me think of Randonautica:

> Randonautica (a portmanteau of "random" + "nautica") is an app launched on February 22, 2020 founded by Auburn Salcedo and Joshua Lengfelder. It randomly generates coordinates that enable the user to explore their local area and report on their findings. According to its creators, the app is "an attractor of strange things," letting one choose specific coordinates based on a certain theme. It gained controversy after a report of two teenagers coincidentally finding a corpse while using the app.

That sounds fun. Reminds me of GeoHashing (https://www.xkcd.com/426/)

I get where you're coming from, but I think it's important to keep in mind that there is no centralized score for Chinese citizens, and that such claims are often sensationalized. [1] However, I'd agree that China is a good example of high degrees of surveillance.

I also have a QR code in a photo widget. It takes me < 2 seconds to unlock my phone and swipe once on the home screen, and there's usually a delay as people pull out their camera, but there are a couple advantages:

1. People spell my name right. Even when I tell people how to spell my name exactly, they still get it wrong. If they scan my QR code, they always get it right

2. I can put all my info in one place. My vCard has my phone number, several emails, links to my social media, Discord, and whatnot.

3. You can include a photo, if you don't mind making the QR code much larger. With a well optimized image, this can be a nice addition.

Just to add to the sample size, I abandoned Reddit as it got increasingly user-hostile, and I have been enjoying the fediverse. There's a lot of cool hackers on there, and I feel like I have a really good signal:noise ratio. Sorry to hear it wasn't a good experience for you tho.
