Ripping Blu-Rays as is makes little sense except for preservation as most of them have hardcoded black bars in the video stream instead of letting playback devices letterbox/pillarbox as needed. Apparently the standard only supports a few resolutions, not even including 24:10 and other common cinema aspect ratios.
Also still plenty of Blu-Rays around using VC-1 which is garbage compared to current codecs. Perhaps all new ones have migrated to H.264 - at least all UHD ones I have seen have.
