I have searched for this some time ago but all 'hints' guided me towards vim(1) :set nowrap option.

I checked now the vi(1) [nvi] man page on FreeBSD and it indeed has leftright option.

    % man vi | grep -A 1 leftright
        leftright [off]
            vi only.  Do left-right scrolling.

But I never interpreted that as 'nowrap' equivalent.
