As a South African who lost family due to the Delta wave, I hope that they don't only ban travel from South Africa, but also ban travel to South Africa.

Due to our lack of political will from a corrupt Health Minister and an aloof President, we didn't stop international travel when the first cases of Delta were confirmed. It wreaked havoc locally.

Our tourism sector gets adversely affected, but we just came out of an election cycle where cases are now rising again. Better for EU and other states to ban travel to our country because our President won't do it.

It's uncertain if this mutation occurred locally, seems we're just the first ones to identify it. That's however less relevant until all other countries can start identifying the variant.
